Bruce Springsteen Streets Of Philadelphia From Philadelphia

Talking so much about The Wrestler got me thinking about another one of those smashing doings by The Boss: Streets Of Philadelphia.

Such a great movie and such a great song, I instantly pump up the volume of my stereo (in those rare occasions) when I hear it on the radio. I saw Philadelphia a long time ago, but Tom Hank’s performance is something that gives this movie more than a feeling of deceiving sadness. (you can read more about this Friday Break song right after the jump)

The song was written and performed in 1993 by Bruce Springsteen for Philadelphia, the movie. Awarded with a Grammy and an Oscar, this song was made at the special request of Philadelphia’s director, Jonathan Demme. Released in 1994, the Streets Of Philadelphia recorded a huge success worldwide.

The music video was also directed by Jonathan Demme (and Ted Demme, his nephew) and shows Bruce Springsteen walking along Philly streets and also show Tom Hanks character towards the end. There’s something special about the way this video was shot : Bruce Springsteen re-recorded the audio track of the song when they were filming the video to make it authentic and eliminate the lip-sync imperfections. If only today’s performers knew how to do that! (via)
