Yes Adriana here in Toronto we have been recycling for years. We separate food waste and paper, have special bins for glass, tins and paper. And have special pick ups depending on the season for yard waste like weeds, leaves and other such things.
I always try to carry a cloth bag and if it is raining I reuse plastic bags. Its good to try as every little bit helps.

Is it possible in the US and Canada to seperate your glass, paper and batteries as well as leftovers from food, peels, shells i.e. like fruit and groceries from the rest of your garbage? Are there special recycle bins for these?

It was always such a good Dutch attitude to do your daily shoppings with your shopping bag. In foreign countries I've had looks if I was a thief or something with my bags because I refused to use all these plastic bags. So I always showed that the bags were empty or I kept my bill(s) if I've had bought something elsewhere and that I wasn't a thief at all.
Alas, I see less of our good attitude these days though its still here. Though I still carry on with my habit to use my shopping bag(s) or my shopping car. Now and then its impossible to avoid a plastic bag. And most off them are so ugly too!

These booties are funny and practical. But I don't like them really. I carry on to do my shoppings, or running for errands as it is I believe, with my old fashioned bags. I don't feel that much guilty being a part of this eco-disaster. I bring used glass, paper off all kinds to special eco-cans since ages. The same goes for the very bad poisened batteries. I don't own a car since years. Its practical and cheaper to rent one in a overcrowded country as the Netherlands if really, really necassary. I walk or take a bus, tram or metro and peddle of course on my bike.
Since years I'm eco-friendly as much as possible. Some things we can't avoid alas. What about all the stand-by's and such things? Instead of limited these the use has grown immense. If you want it or not its not to avoid...sighs....All these stand-by's feels like X-mis lights at times.
When do we start to do something? I do my best but sometimes I'm bound to give up on mankind. Someone said of late maybe we should not write 'kind' anymore after 'man' or something like that.....

Wow! Those boots are way cool and extremely clever with the use of the recycled plastic bags! I would wear them! They would be funky on rainy days! : )
Maybe they could also make house ware things out of the plastic bags too like shower curtains and place mats?
