In the Netherlands is every foreign movie, tv-serie, documentary, interviews in the news etc. subtitled. Only animation, not everything but a lot, are synchronic. For the children. I always prefer the original version. There are always two versions! I'm so used to it and I don't want it to be changed ever. I'm glad I can hear the actors real voices and its great to get in touch with other languages.

Thanks for the information again, and I do know who Edith Piaf is/was. I think that most of the time that European films do not make over to North America except in film festivals, is because a lot of people dislike reading subtitles and that puts them off. I usually don't mind but I have to be in the mood to read and watch at the same time.

Ellington, Marion is a very popular French actress. An actress with many talents. Very beloved in Europe.
For her part in the Edith Piaf biopic she received the Oscar for Best Actress in January 2008.
Here's the <a href="http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=uzEJ7NV_g98" target="new" rel="nofollow">trailer</a> of the movie.

If you've time you should search for the one and only Edith Piaf on YouTube whose still a phenomenon and an icon in France as well in other Europe countries. This was such a marvelous singer I learnt to love due to my mother who adored Edith Piaf.
Marion sang Edith's chansons herself in the biopic called "La Môme".
Its such a pity how our European movies are so less unknown and admired overseas. Our European movies gets not that much exposure world-wide. Maybe thats a blessing too...??

......but it spoils my fun while watching a movies more and more.....

The same reason fashion magazines do use celebs whatever fashionista's complain, apparantly a celeb on the cover sells better to a broader audience...

Dolly Bird, indeed it was photoshopped, that's perfect clear as the sky behind her!

Adriana, I think they're using celebs because they allegedly sell so much more than a product! They sell a life guide, a life model in a bottle, in a box... Most studies conducted lately show that a huge percentage of people make choices (I admit, it was about clothes, but I guess you can expand it to jewelry, watches, shoes, accessories.. food? almost everything) based on their favorite celebs. So if the brands go for celebs, it's a sure best seller. They conduct their own market researches too. And if they conclude a certain face is more valuable than other, they're going for it. Like Audrey Tautou.. She still didn't made the Chanel ads, instead Nicole got even a stronger image impact after her pregnancy so Chanel stuck with her for the Eau Premiere...

Ellington, she was in <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0152930/" target="new" rel="nofollow">Taxi</a> (I forgot which one - correction - my husband said she did all the Taxi series) and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364517/" target="new" rel="nofollow">Jeux d'Enfants</a> (I looooved that one!) and in the recent Oscar-ized Piaf biopic <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450188/" target="new" rel="nofollow">La Vie en Rose</a>.

I think its a nifty ad and she looks spiffy. I love the whole outfit especially the shoes!
I have not the vaguest recollection who Marion is. As for the model/actor/celebrity debate I think it depends on what is being put across in terms of product and marketing. I like models for most things as a lot of celebrities get on my last nerve!

I don't care [anymore] whether a celeb, a model or a former supermodel is the face of any product whatever. I'm so used to all these celebs now and to be honest: I didn't regonise Marion Cotillard at all! So she's now Chanel's and Dior's face? That's sounds a bit like an overexposure to me....? But since Dolly Bird is from France she's of course better informed than me or us?
Plus I get a nauseous because I've fear of heights. Though I've climbed every tower or took any other change to get a beautiful view. I always take some distance from the edge(s).....brrrr....
But I love the shoes!!

Hmm, you think luxury brands are going to use more celebs due to the credit crunch? I've the feeling this is been going on for so long now but it make sense to me. After all the rich and famous are their targets? Or do you suggest this fact because their faces are more regoniseable for the regular people? I didn't regonise Marion and I do feel the economic not yet but that day will come... I guess?
