Alexander McQueen’s Catsuit – All That Glitter And Faint!

Everybody heard that you have to suffer for fashion! Or that you have to suffer for beauty. I don’t argue that, but I have just a little annotation:

If I have to suffer for fashion of beauty, let it be not in Alexander McQueen! For Spring Summer 2009 he chose to highlight the corset. Object of beauty and fetish, the corset can be a torture in itself. Abbey Lee Kershaw felt that on herself when she fainted on the catwalk. People said it was because of her busy schedule. Now I know it was because of the outfit. Just take a look at beautiful Jourdan in Alexander McQueen SS 2009 backstage fittings how she barely breaths, poor girl! How far would you go in suffering for fashion/beauty? (photos via ontdff) (more pictures after the jump!)

I think the girls were probably up since 5 in the morning and hardly had the time between shows to eat and especially drink. Also McQ had a lot of corsetry and stilletoes that didn’t help the state of fragilty of the girls either.Plus their hair looks stifeling and gelled giving their heads a sort of mini heatwave.I’d like to see McQ himself come out in a corset one day on the runway!

I agree with Dolly Bird: Mr. McQueen and all other designers who “wants us to suffer for fashion or beauty” (pfff…..dictators!) should for punishment a week long wear corsets that tight and heels that high like they design lately. Mrs. Prada too btw. I want to be around to hear them moan and complaining as only men can…..

But I found the a lot off the girls to skinny again. Jourdan did seemed skinnier to me than before. Some girls made me almost faint by only looking at them….

I forget something: ready to wear with four persons to assist me to dress up? Where do I find these?

Well not for me, but I could most certainly see Grace Jones wearing this and looking stellar! : )

Ouch. Maybe if designers stopped making models wear tinsy heels and all they’d be perfectly fine. I mean Marc Jacobs has even come out with pretty flats. They should also allow them to eat before walking the runway.

1) Grace Jones has corsets that are cut for her body, and she’s never been anything but supremely physical – breathing is much less a problem for her than it would be for a waif with no muscle between her and her bondage gear.

2) I suspect that McQ in particular DOES wear corsets in the privacy of his own home, along with short crinolines and kitten heels – but that his lover doesn’t lace them tight enough ;)
