I think what is at stake here is bigger than what can be seen at first. All right the L'Oréal Group, the LVMH Group, Hermès etc... are suing Ebay on many cases... Why are they doing so? Because they are manufacturing "luxury" products. Traditionnally these lucury products have been on sale through either their own boutiques or what is called "selective retail". Selective retail is for instance what you find at Bergdorf Goodman or at Saks Fifth Avenue. I think the issue here with Ebay comes partly from the fact that many "replicas" of luxury brands' procucts are sold on their website. This is an element which is not helping luxury goods, is it? On the other hand, the internet community does not really have ( or is only starting to offer) specific selective e-commerce websites. This is probably the key to buying luxury goods online, as the luxury grnds expect their image to be respected and controlled. They could be right, don't you think ?
